when I was about 8 my dad would send me to the corner store to get him a pack of cigarettes for 35 cents
that was in the early 70’s
LOL! I had to ride my bike into town to get 2 packs
of PallMalls, nonfilter, for my stupid stepdad. They were
39 cents each. He would give me 80 cents and want the
two pennies back after my 4 mile round trip! Asshole!
But I survived, didn’t I??
I used to ride miles out a truck route in the 60’s when I was like 7 to get to my Great Grandparents farm.
The old man would give me a dime and I would ride back into town, get him a plug of Beechnut, get 3c change and ride back out the truck route.
By then Grammer had some good lunch going.
Ahh, those 35 cents a pack cigarettes. They were about $3 a carton. I could buy a case of beer for $3 and change. I would go in with my roommate and buy a case of liquor (12 bottles of assorted bourbon, tequila, rum, vodka, gin or whatever) for $30-$40 depending on the brands selected. We got a discount based on buying by the case. Retired from the Olympic drinking team, I now make 3-4 bottles last 5 years. ;o)
Cigs are up 1000% and so are cars. So why can I buy a refrigerator now for the same price as I paid in 1975?
your a young un, I use to buy them for my mother at 19 cents a pack....:O) but the couner store use to make you have a note from your mother...Like a 7 year old smoked...rules were rules back then..back in the late 40’s...
We could buy candy cigarettes.
Ride a bike without a helmet.
Smoke almost anywhere, including a plane.
Drive without a seat belt.
And on and on and on...
