Hi,
I’m the author of the article (the analogy between Egypt & the USA), and would be happy to explain the “Silicon Valley” analogy.
A few weeks before he was ousted, news leaked about a deal being struck in total secrecy between ex-president Morsi (and his party, the Moslem Brotherhood) and the nation of Qatar.

Details that leaked showed Qatar would pay lots of money to get the concession to fully operate Egypt’s Suez Canal Zone for 50 years.
So far so good, but what terrified most Egyptians was that the deal included FULL ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROL over the Canal and the zone...

In effect, Qatar would RULE over a key part of Egypt with full jurisdiction and not under the authority of the Egyptian state!

Hence, I thought the Silicon Valley would perhaps be of similar magnitude to Americans...
Hope this helped :)
Cheers
A. A. Marei

I’m scratching my head trying to figure out a motive that doesn’t involve financial playoffs for a lot of Egyptian politicians.

Thank you for the analogy ... any updates on the situation for us?

This administration got it wrong in Honduras and now again in Egypt.
