What is your favorite aviation movie?
one man's opinion...
Posted on 07/06/2013 4:42:52 PM PDT by ken5050
Well, the cable news networks are non stop with their coverage of the air crash in San Francisco. Looking at the pictures, it seems a miracle that the number of fatalities is so low. If there is one unintended consequence of this crash..at least we will be spared talk about Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman for the next few days. As the networks are talking aviation and nothing but, I thought it would be a slight diversion to discuss our favorite aviation themed movies.

We just watched Zero Hour the other night it was a serious film but its what the movie airplane was based on it was hilarious to watch after watching airplane a gazillion times I had the same reaction. You can't help but make the comparisons and laugh. Same sound effects, too. That was a hoot.

Heh, never saw your limitation on war movies...sorry if I contributed to ruining the thread...
There was a movie “Pushing Tin” that had a great scene in it...Billy Bob Thornton’s character thought he could stand on the runway as a 747 landed right in back of him...they showed his body bouncing up and down being blown like a rag doll down the runway!
I was watching it with three aviation enthusiasts, and we all laughed and replayed the scene over and over until we had tears running down our faces...

Strategic Air Command Corny, but I love all of the old SAC scenes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My Dad was a B-36 crew member from 1951 to 1955. His B-36 Peacemaker crew was stationed in Texas at that time. I saw the movie a few times. They called them "six turning, four burning". They were larger than B-52's. They scared the living daylights out of Russians with the bomb load. The Russians had a re-engineered B-29 rip off at the time.

Firefox...that movie was the biggie in our brand new neighborhood (all new homes), when I bought a corded electric lawnmower - to be quicker and different from the neighbors.
Said mower quickly became known as "Firefox" throughout the 'hood due to the whine it'd emit when I fired it up every Sattidy morning.

Why? IMHO, it is because we have lost our souls to political correctness run amok and empowerment of progressive goons. It is even hard to write a novel now adays that delves into the vagaries of the better angels in the human soul. Apparently there is too small a market for things not loaded with sex and degeneracy. I am a fan of the BBC mysteries, like Inspector Morse and Midsomer Murders. The newer offerings are degenerating as a reflection of different, more ‘tolerant’ writers. Even the Dr. Who series is overly influenced by the sexual preferences of the writers and directors who are ‘gay’.

Exactly. A very powerful movie. I heard that there were elements of it based on the life of Curtis Lemay.
