Their definition of Sanhedrin is not the holy courts of the Talmud or as described in other historical writings.
They are borrowing the term and applying it to some secular definition of a political body. It is a far cry from the religious courts established by a Jewish king.
Am I mistaken in thinking the Sanhedrin did not believe in life after death?
