Well, exactly. People got the entirely wrong idea about ol' Vlad - he actually had quite a sense of humor. One time he had some thieves who had robbed a merchant impaled, and while they were up there he returned the purse to the merchant and told him to count the coins. "But sire," said the merchant, "this is strange, there is one coin more here than I had." "Right!" said Vlad, "I see that you are an honest man. If you hadn't said that I'd have had you impaled too."
Then there was the time on of his supper guests complained about the stink of the rotting bodies. He had that guy impaled 14 feet up. "Smell any better up there?" he asked. What a joker!
