Well, yeah, but almost all car dealers are Republicans...IIRC correctly, this was studied at the time and the report was there were a few Democrat dealers who lost their dealerships, and since there weren't many Democrats with dealerships to begin wit, the ratios were not much different.
My recollection is that a FReeper undertook to study this issue -- laboriously cross-indexing the listed owners with the published donor lists and reporting daily on FR.
As I recall, before he gave up the task, he had found one in 300 of the terminated dealers to be a Democrat -- a Chrysler dealer in KC, MO.
Further, I recall one of the appointive members of the Car Czar group (Rattner or Bloom, I think) resigned their position several months in...without comment. Subsequently, he revealed in a (rarely cited) interview that "politics had played too large a part in dealership selection".
I'd agree that automobile dealers are disproportionately Republican. But I don't doubt, given this administration's history, that the terminated dealers were even more disproportionately Republican.
