It’s amazing how the politicians have it rigged so that it’s the donors responsibility and not the recipients responsibility to make sure the donation is legal and to the law.

Makes perfect sense right? The one entity receiving the donations has no obligation to make sure it’s to the law? While the investigators have to look into 1000’s of donors.

How would the recipient (Reid in this case) know where the individual donors got their money from (Harvey Whittemore)?

I agree though that donors shouldn't be able to buy political influence by donating to campaigns whose money is largely at the disposal of the candidate/officeholder.

They should funnel campaign contributions through bonded third parties who keep individual donors' identity confidential from the public and the candidates.
