I think the reaction of police was more than clear in New Orleans (Katrina) and Los Angeles (1992 riots). Essentially, they take care of their own families - that simple. They are not going to put themselves in the line of fire. In the case of Katrina, all the great plans to bus out the locals failed, because the bus drivers were also locals and, again, took care of their families. If you want to bus out people, fly in drivers from, say Tennessee, give them a GPS and decent pot of cash when they arrive back in Tennessee.

But for these scenarios, with no help coming, there will be trouble. The really bad stuff will start THE MOMENT people realize that they’re on their own. Prior to that, it could be calm (for up to a few days). The hard call is what to do. If you prep properly, you could probably barricade yourself in an apartment for 2 months or so - or do you make a run for it at the start? Don’t know.

Glue. Good point, it was never on my lists either...and my lists are pretty darn thorough.

Ah, someone has to control the resources, why not your band?

Because those "resources" don't belong to you, and your lack of preparation is no excuse for stealing them from their rightful owners.

I am just south of Houston and I can say the same thing. Not only is Houston full of obama supporters it has quite a few muslims too.

My initial weak spots in a SHTF occurrence were my perimeter and my ability to light up the night. I’m confident with my fencing now and if a person can afford a Fenix TK-75 flashlight you will own the night. I never thought of a flashlight being a weapon by itself, but this thing absolutely is.

So, in the Apocalypse the board of directors will come out, and divide the loot with its shareholders and any employee that didn’t receive his or her wage. Heh, what I was getting at is what store would be the best to provide for survival in that event but if you don’t feel like playing along so be it.

I have been saying for some time that the best defense to this sort of situation is a medium sized city that is somewhat remote but that has a culturally homogenous population

Which is why I live in a small, remote, town with a culturally homogenous population.

As far as the US goes, I don’t see this scenario. Let me cite some examples.

1) The aftermath of the assassination of MLK. 110 cities with large black populations had riots, excepting Boston. However, the 1960s were full of race and other riots.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_incidents_of_civil_unrest_in_the_United_States#1960s

Importantly, those who rioted then are the most likely candidates to riot today, but equally ineffectually. Likely even less so, because the authorities today are much better equipped, and are in no mood to accept riots.

2) Natural disaster. Almost certainly regional, which permits the other regions to lend support.

3) Economic catastrophe. During the Great Depression, it took a year and four months after the collapse of the stock market for the first food riots to take place. Importantly, this was in the absence of direct government action, which could have relieved food shortages in a week.

I recommend the book “A Failure of Civility - How to Defend and Protect You, your family, friends, neighborhood and America during a disaster or crisis” by Mike Garand and Jack Lawson.

No, but they could direct their functionaries to distribute the assets to those in need.

What are you going to do: shoot them?

Your "game" is the very antithesis of the prepper mindset: I doubt you'll get many takers.

Your talking about a still intact civilization. Read “One Second After,” and you will get an idea of what will happen to those big box stores if local authorities declare martial law, otherwise there would be a mass run, chaos and everything would disappear. Would you shoot people trying to feed their families?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is all of this based upon? You all expect a total breakdown of society within two weeks? If so, why? If not, what are you all talking about?
