An analyst says the investigators are focusing more on the possibility of a homemade act of terror in Boston but we need to be very careful not to fall into the potential Islamophobia and surveillance of the Muslim minority.
The comments came after the twin bombing at the major northeastern US city of Boston near the finish line of the citys annual cross-country marathon race killed at least three people and injured over 130 others. This is while Boston city officials explained to reporters at a nationally televised press conference that they had no suspects but were questioning some people. While there was no claim of responsibility or a prior warning before the bombings, US officials are reportedly treating the incident as an act of terrorism.
Press TV has conducted an interview with Kaveh Afrasiabi, political analyst, to further discuss the issue. What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.
Press TV: US police are yet to find out who was behind the blasts, we know that this marathon in Boston is very well known and perhaps the largest sporting event in the country. Tell us more about the security measures that took place in the country?
Afrasiabi: Well first of all there appears to be some breakthroughs with respect to the nature of the bomb that was exploded. Now they are talking about pressure cooker type bombs that are relatively easy to assemble and the items are available on the internet and that points in turn to the possibility of a homemade, either lone wolf or internal terrorist rather than al-Qaeda type act of terror.....

Bear in mind that PressTV is the media service of the Iranian government.
Look at my comment after the headline.
They are BOTH protesting too much.
“...homemade act of terror...”
Yes - they are right, the Islamic terrorists used home-wares to construct bombs in their home - so in short, Iran and Salon are saying they agree that Moslems are to blame for this attack!
I didn’t know the Boston marathon is the largest sporting event in the US. Isit?
It’s fun watching these jerks do pretend journalism.
I read Kaveh Afrasiabi in the Atimes.com.
The guy is, by my estimation of all of his writings, a paid agent and propagandist of the Iran regime. Iran and its leaders are always painted as wise, peaceful, prudent, and moderate, while the USA is always aggressive, stupid and militaristic. His style is no different from that of the former Pravda or China’s People’s Daily.
I actually wrote to his e-mail and accused him of being just that. I was surprised (and pleased) to receive a nasty reply from him!
They desperately want it to be a “right wing gun nut.” If it is, they will start the repression at once.
I once got a profanity-laced nastygram from Helen Thomas after I criticized a piece she wrote.
How? There are 400 million firearms (if not more) amongst the American citizenry.
That is worth framing and putting on your wall.
Count yourself lucky that she did not include an autographed photo. [Or did she hate you enough to do that too?]
My thoughts exactly! Taking it a bit further, if the letter sent to her could be somehow included, with her nasty reply in larger print, one could sell copies.
sure
and the ricin letters that were mailed before the bombing are a pure coinky dink
and then there is this report from January of terrorists planning to use ricin in mass attacks
