Howard Student To Rand Paul: "I Want A Government That Is Going To Help Me"
RCP Video ^ | 4-10-2013

Posted on 04/11/2013 7:56:33 AM PDT by Sir Napsalot

Howard University student to Sen. Rand Paul: ".... You say you want to provide a government that leaves us alone. Quite frankly, I don’t want that. I want a government that is going to help me. I want a government that is going to help me fund my college education. I want a government that won’t define me by my FAFSA or by my family’s income. I’m a dollar sign with a heartbeat in this nation. This society is a mirror image of Capitol Hill. Do you, Senator Rand Paul, have a solution to come up with new American values so that the citizens of this nation have a worth of more than dead presidents and Ben Franklin?"

Another pansified moocher.

Who will rail against 18th century American slavery all day long but will race to the front of the line in 2013 so he can be fitted for a pair of velvet handcuffs and voluntary servitude for life.

You know, those dead white guys who set up a system of government that allowed idiots to breed freely and even obtain positions in education.

Others have pointed out the reference to money. But the statement means much more than that.

The speaker wants to scrap a system where a person’s “value” is generally reckoned in relation to the market price of what he produces. He feels his personal “value” (as a community agitator, performance artiste, Rasta-contemplator, or whatever) is not adequately rewarded in a system where other people have free choices. Therefore he wants Rand Paul to revise “American values” to jettison the surly bonds of economics, and have the government redistribute other peoples’ earnings to him through coercion, according to his needs and desires.

This is a typical view of naive communists, ignorant of the role of incentive in economics, and the history of how much communist regimes value their people. With black youth unemployment rates of 50%, it is no surprise that this person does not appreciate the merits of competition.

One Penny Plan? How about follow the damn Constitution; ZERO out everything not in A1S8 and problem is solved.

Sh!ts like this can find out what it’s like to have to make it on their own, or die trying (I’ll presume the latter...won’t shed a tear).

Enough with trying to seem less ‘extreme’. Get’em all outta my life and wallet. I’m damn tired of propping up the trash.

I want a government that will help me not help you

There you have the core problem of democracy very neatly wrapped and presented.

Less than half the people want a government that enables them to take care of themselves.

More than half want a government that will take care of and 'help' them. Preferably, they would like all of the rewards that those who successfully take care of themselves enjoy.

It is completely a normal human response to say ....help me not help you.... and that is precisely why government ought not to actually 'help' anyone. Every democracy in human history has died at the moment those in power realized they could write checks on the public money to reward those who will vote to keep them in power, and use taxes to punish those who would remove them.

“...to help me,” or “to support me”?

This guy’s a lost cause. Like the students at Johns Hopkins, he’s a walking talking validation of the left-wing indoctrination that is modern academia.

I agree with your translation.

It's astounding, though, that the prepared comment of a college student needs to be "translated" to be understood in the first place.

Hey ya little moocher (the student): any government strong enough to steal - under threat of force - to help your worthless butt is strong enough to steal from YOU. Or worse. Too bad you’re so stupid and/or indoctrinated that you fail to understand that this will literally make you a slave of those in power. (I’d mention that this also makes others slaves, but I doubt this moocher cares.) By your own choice no less.

Thank you all participating in a very interesting discussion thread.

I asked “Did Paul change any thinking?” not because I think Paul wasted his time. We need people like him doing what he did.

To me it is more a Andrew Breitbart moment. Without them shining lights onto these problems, I’m just living a sheltered live.

It is one thing to read about GIMME GIMME crowd and their mentality, but another to actually see what this video clip showed.

I just watched the video this morning, and what struck me about it was the guy asking the question.

He couldn’t even hold the question in his head to ask it.

He had to read it off of a cell phone. I understand a lot (not all) of young people can’t do anything without gazing at a text or cell phone, but there was something in his delivery, holding the phone in front of him, unable to even look up at the person he was attempting to put down.

Pathetic.
