Its disturbing that Ann Coulter is so desperate for attention that she would stoop this low on the day Margaret Thatcher died. Just like Politco (as Steve pointed out in another post) Coulter used Thatchers passing as an opportunity to take part in some trashy PDS. During an interview with Geraldo Rivera, Coulter starting punching up and didnt stop until she made a complete fool of herself.
Transcript, courtesy of Real Clear Politics:
COULTER: One thing that I know, because I know people who know her, is when Sarah Palin first burst on the scene, the political scene, she wanted to have a meeting with Palin, because she saw raw political talent, but wanted to teach Sarah Palin to do what she did.
COULTER: To teach her to speak proper English. Palin did not meet with her, and just a year or two ago, when Sarah Palin was promoting some reality show or something, she went to England. And she announced to the press that she was planning on dropping by to see Lady Thatcher, and Lady Thatcher put out the word that she was not available.
COULTER: What, I think, a lot of us saw, that Sarah Palin did have raw political talent. And if she had been willing to put her nose to the grindstone and pursue improving herself, speaking proper English, reading stuff, knowing lots of things, she could have been great. Shes a fine person, but that isnt what shes pursuing.
First of all, what business does Ann Coulter have demeaning a highly accomplished former executive like Governor Palin? What has Ann ever done to place herself on such a pedestal? Any noteworthy accomplishments, Ann, besides trashing good conservatives and promoting squishy moderates? At least for the past couple of years anyway, because we all know Coulter used to act and talk much differently than she does today.
Second, I realize Governor Palin does not use the same pretentious snob accent Coulter does, but Governor Palin speaks proper English. Does she use slang from time to time? Sure, and there is nothing wrong with that. Its called being human and having a sense of humor. Two things I guess Coulter is having trouble identifying with these days.
Third, if Ann Coulter knew anything about Governor Palin, she wouldnt make those comments about reading stuff, knowing lots of things etc. Perhaps Ann should read some of the stuff Governor Palin has written, or maybe take some time to watch some of her speeches. Coulter would certainly learn some things about the Governor she clearly doesnt already know, and considering what business shes in, she should. Nothing worse than an uninformed opinion writer.
Last but not least, Coulter repeats a debunked story by the left-wing Guardian from 2011. Margaret Thatcher never put out the word that she was not available to meet with Governor Palin. As former Thatcher aide, Niles Gardiner wrote (emphasis):
I have spoken to Lady Thatchers Private Office regarding the story, and they confirm that the attack on Sarah Palin definitely did not come from her office, and in no way reflects her views. As a former aide to Margaret Thatcher myself, I can attest that this kind of thinking is entirely alien to her, and that such remarks would never be made by her office. She has always warmly welcomed like-minded figures in the United States, and has in the past met with numerous US presidential candidates and political dignitaries when they have visited London. But at the age of 85 she is now able to receive very few visitors at all.
There was never any snub of Sarah Palin by Lady Thatchers office. However, there has been a great deal of mischief-making and unpleasantness from sections of the liberal press in a vain and futile attempt to use Margaret Thatchers name to smear a major US politician.
Add Coulter to this mix of mischief-makers.
Jim Hoft also reported the Thatcher Foundations response when asked by one of his readers if the story was true:
The Guardian, of course, is not a newspaper at all sympathetic to Lady Thatcher (or to Mrs. Palin), so reports on this topic, from that source, have minimal credibility. If nothing else, would Lady Thatcher have ever described a prominent US conservative politician as nuts, or approved an ally who used the description? I would hope that question answers itself.
Of course, sadly, Lady Thatchers health is not good these days and such considerations naturally dominate her schedule. That much is true. Someone once said that if you plaster together the true and the false you thereby manufacture the plausible, but in this case I dont think even that much has been achieved by the Guardian.
So there you have it. Ann Coulter used the day the world lost Iron Lady Thatcher to trash Governor Palin with rehashed, debunked lies and insults to play to the ignorant. Bravo, Ann! You, like Politico, have reached a new low.
sounds like youre boasting rather than complaining.
HOLD it a second...
(talking to my printer)- Where do we get these people..
I’m back.... You’re POINT!?.. you must have a point..
Google “The Daily Currant.”
The Palin article is satire.
There are a ton of factors, many out of the control of the individual, that influence one’s pedigree. Growing up in Alaska with the family background Palin had didn't put her on the fast-track to the standard pedigree that many families in the Northeast push their children to obtain. That said, she clearly is not stupid.
I agree with you that her speaking style makes her an avid target of the media elites, just like Bush - who also clearly isn't stupid. I would remind us all of James Stockdale, Perot's running mate, who did horribly on the political stage. He graduated from Annapolis with very good academic credentials, and had an additional degree from Stanford, but got chewed up because he wasn't accustomed to public speaking in the political context.
My point is not to convince you that Palin is a great candidate, or the smartest, but to make the case that we should be a bit more careful how we define people's intelligence. IMHO we would be much, much better off as a nation if we banned all graduates of the Ivies from running for the Presidency or for Congress for the next decade. They've been overrepresented in political office for quite awhile now, and have clearly not done a stellar job.
Coulter attacked Gov. Palin
for Romney-the-Tyrant and Obama-the-Tyrant.
It is her way.
She made the better choice. Made a lot of money, and didn’t have to go through the media destruction machine.
Yes, she played the tease. But very few really expected her to run outside of FR. She never took it that seriously.
Puhleze. IT was ROMNEY and his evil supporters
like Rove who LOST the election by failing to even
show up except for 1 debate.
ROMNEY WAS A SECRET OBAMA SUPPORTER.
The GOP can never be trusted again. EVER.
Lots of women feel the same, and you observe the same typical results as Coulter exhibited.
You should have known by now that many Freepers are one-way thing when it comes to conservatism. My way or you can go to hell. No difference between those who they may agree with 99% of the time and those with 5% of the time.
and the Christie lard sandwich...
Careful you are starting to sound like Coulter...
HA! Good one.
The GOP should keep him around, just as a living mascot.
Why? Whose shoes does she have on?
Republican primary elections. What's that...something from the past?
If Republicans conservatives ever want to win anything, they need to end "open primaries" in all states that have them.
Who is out there that the RATs wouldn't do the same exact thing to, and how would you combat it?
If there isn't real political baggage, the RATs just make it up.
I agree with you, but; the media will eat those types up. I did vote for Palin. I will never vote Dem/commie.
Agree.
There isn’t a true conservative that the Left wouldn’t go all out to demonize and destroy. I agree completely on that.
The extent to which it can be fought and resisted is largely dependent on the candidate. I’m not old enough to remember, but I’ve read and I’ve been told that the Left did their best to demonize Reagan, but once the American people got a true, unfiltered look at him then the Left’s attacks on him were revealed as baseless.
I wonder if Palin is capable of the same. And I wonder if the relentless attacks on her have put her in too big a hole with too large a segment of the electorate. I know a lot of people get very defensive of Palin, and I’ll admit that I’m not a big fan, at least not of her running for President. But I would vote for her against any conceivable Democrat candidate. I have my doubts that others would though, at least enough of them.
Of course, I voted for McCain/Palin, but would never campaign to put Palin on the top of the ticket. As soon as she is unscripted, her method of speaking goes a bit bizarre and all over the place.
She’s good for generating income for her family, and she can attract conservatives to events, but I don’t think she could ever win a national election, and I doubt she could win a statewide election, now. Way too much water under the bridge. :)
We need to find some new conservatives. Where the heck are they?
we will never see another republican president in our lifetime.
If obamaCare was not enough of a reason to vote Romney.
The traitors who didn’t vote Romney have taken are country over the cliff.
Dream all you want to, in a few years Obama will will look tame. The numbers are not there for the future.
Romney was the one who encouraged Obama to give us a national version of RomneyCare. It was a good reason to vote against Romney.
The GOPe has given us a long string of bad candidates
