Sorry, Yehuda, there were many Jews in the high ranks/inner circle of the Bolsheviks - Trotsky was a Jew; Genrikh Yagoda, the head of the NKVD, was a Jew; Zinoviev was a Jew; Radek was a Jew; Kamenev was a Jew; Litvinoff was a Jew; and even the assassin of the Czar and his family, Yakov Yurovsky, was a Jew.And over time, Stalin had them all eliminated. Maybe some Jews were attracted to the Bolsheviks, because of their hatred of the Czar....but the leadership of the movement despised Jews every bit as much, but found them "useful."

I'm thinking much of Stalin's animosity towards Jews in the Party came from him thinking they sided with his competitor for leadership post-Lenin: Trotsky.

Not really the point - Stalin being like a mobster who has one of his.minions killed off doesn’t mean that the minion wasn’t a bad guy. And oddly, Stalin having Jewish Bolsheviks eliminated in Russia didn’t damper the enthusiasm of communist Jews in the U.S.
