I took my ten year old to tour my alma matter. She wanted to see the campus art gallery. There was a huge exhibit on the benefits of amnesty, praising the DREAM Act and likening it to MLK.
I had to explain to her that yes, it was technically art, but it was a three wall advertisement for politics, too. She said it made it look like this was a good thing. So I stood there for five minutes explaining why amnesty and the dream act were bad. In the exhibit. On purpose. Not caring what staff overheard.
My daughter was embarrassed, but I needed to make the point publicly. Amnesty isn’t a right or even good, no matter how much praise and “forgiveness” it is cloaked it.
I reminded several people that if we have 10% unemployment, we cannot afford millions more to have permission to work.
Don’t know if it has any affect other than my kid not liking me right now, but I felt there needed to be at least one counterpoint.

You did a valuable service by providing a reasoned counterpoint to your daughter. I used to have a lot of arguments with my father growing up about politics and other topics. Now that I’m older, I realize that with every passing year, he was a genius.

My ten year old daughter would have been clapping. I thought she’d get thrown out of kindergarten for calling someone a “Liberal!!”, which was her favorite insult at the time. :)
