When the collapse comes the gangs will eventually get me. But they will have to climb over a pile of rotting corpses to do so, if I have the chance to defend the little food and ammo I've stored up.

We have very plain evidence that the federal oligarchy is planning to go to ground for a few years. The orders for a multi-year supply of ammo is but one of those indications clearly visible to those paying attention. There is a date certain in the near future after which society will be in utter chaos. It is a planned collapse with an agenda driving it to completion. A 'federal reserve' for the whole world is in the future of those who survive the collapse.
