Yep. Lots of bears and deer, too! Just went to snow blow the latest snow and a herd of about 25 deer passed by.
Nope. 7,000. Of course, 9494 is where I might park the car and go from there.
See my post #18. It will add to your plan.
↑ GREAT BOOK! - I recommend reading it - get it while you can for free from my link above.
After you've read the part about how all those nice, civilized urban Austrians rampaged through the countryside en-masse pillaging farms and wreaking havoc, read this:

This is coming to America - perhaps sooner than we think.
This pResident just spent more money than all Presidents who preceded him combined in an effort to prod the economy, and we are still down some 3-4 million jobs from when he won his first election. The IRS takes in $2.5Trillion and this year we spend $3.5 - this is going to look like Cyprus sooner than we think!
Interesting article but the writer overlooks the technology factor that means that no place is unfindable. You can have a very low profile in all the matters he considers but technology already knows where you are and you are unlikely to remain isolated. Planning must proceed from that perspective.

I have that book. My prep books about everything are many. I have learned from every book I have read, real and fiction. Wouldn’t give up any of those books.
Stone if bricks are considered stone. Wouldn’t feel safe in an all wood house.
What if your whole block burns?
Also, if someone tried to burn my house, I would kill him and could do it from my second floor with my rifle.
“What if your whole block burns?”
He would have to get in here first and this place is difficult to find even accidently, and there are older veterans in here and this is Texas and they would kill him or them and I would help them.
Please don't take my question the wrong way, I have no intention of burning anyone's home and abhor violence, however, if you are planning a standoff, look at the reality - the cops burned out Koresh, they burned out Dorhner.
My house is stone, but the roof is vulnerable as it has wood beams. If someone were to shoot a flaming arrow at my home in the night, it would not burn as there is no place with exposed wood or asphalt shingles (my roof is thick hard ceramic tile.) But still, there are those wooden beams. All of my glass is practically bulletproof, but a determined intruder would probably get in somehow.
Just food for thought. I hope you and your family weather the storm without the need to exchange fire with unfriendlies.
:)
I always thought another good thing to have in a hideout like that would be excellent hiding positions for snipers who would like to hide out of sight from your perch. Of course, with a hidden camera and booby trap surprise...
The logic is to supply the marauder with the perfect vantage point - but have it prepared... ;)
Stay safe.
Not sure what you mean by “planning a standoff”. If you mean would I defend myself, yes I would and I would do it today if someone tried to get in my house or tried to burn my house. If NOT planning a standoff means I would walk away and do nothing, then, yes, I'm planning a standoff.
Our roofs are made of slate - they won't burn. Also, the cops wouldn't burn this place because one of their own lives here and another one of their own has a son who lives here. The widow who lives next to me has a grandson who is a fireman for this town. He would do his best to stop a fire in here.
A story about this elderly widow next door: One afternoon a firetruck came in here and stopped in front of the widow's townhouse which is the one next to mine. I go outside and see other of our people also outside because they saw the firetruck and we wondered if the widow had someway started a fire. Eventually, she came out and told us her fire alarm went off because the battery was going dead and she couldn’t reach it so she called the grandson and he used the firetruck as transportation to come and take down the alarm. Now, that is service.
The fire station and the police station and the sheriff's office is not far from this place.
A single family cannot adequately defend any property against a coordinated attack. You can defend against a small group if you see them coming.
Small arms fire will easily penetrate most modern construction including brick.
Hopefully, all this talk is only theory that never gets put into practice.
I did not mean a standoff against police, but rather only wanted to illustrate how in two cases, wooden structures were burnt to the ground by law enforcement, killing all inside.
Real bad guys would probably exhibit far less restraint. That’s all.
Stay safe.
Good on ya!
I, too, weathered Ike. We've based our basic preps off of that experience and have added to that. We're prepared for the short and longterm, God willing.
