Well the US and the “Two Headed Eagle” got along just fine while the Czars were in power.

I’ve always looked at the EU like joining in a partnership with my family.
Some of us work hard and do well...some not so much. But the “not so much” family members are always whining for help.
I would never join in a partnership with my family. Why they thought the EU would work is beyond my comprehension.

Also, deep-seated (just for reference). Yes, anyone familiar with the story of the Tower of Babel ought to have known just how something like this would play out. Besides, did anyone really think that citizens of one country would gladly want to pay for the drunken excesses of people from another? You might get away with that sort of thing in a federation where everyone speaks the same language, and shares a common heritage, but in Europe? Really?

The thing of it is, nationalism is not a "system," but, like capitalism, a phenomenon. It happens naturally, simply because human beings are the way they are.
The US is rapidly becoming the same, ever since we abandoned the “Melting Pot” for the “Tossed Salad” approach.
It was suicide.
