Well the US and the “Two Headed Eagle” got along just fine while the Czars were in power.
It had it’s issues, but inviting everyone in without proof of loyalty is like having a peace pow wow in a pit of vipers.
We'll probably get to test your theory in the not-too-distant future!
I’ve always looked at the EU like joining in a partnership with my family.
Some of us work hard and do well...some not so much. But the “not so much” family members are always whining for help.
I would never join in a partnership with my family. Why they thought the EU would work is beyond my comprehension.
Worlds are colliding!
I’ll bet the UK is glad they still haven’t adopted the Euro as currency.
Hubris.
But all the wrong people are getting crushed.
Also, deep-seated (just for reference). Yes, anyone familiar with the story of the Tower of Babel ought to have known just how something like this would play out. Besides, did anyone really think that citizens of one country would gladly want to pay for the drunken excesses of people from another? You might get away with that sort of thing in a federation where everyone speaks the same language, and shares a common heritage, but in Europe? Really?
Exactly.

I wonder if Aesop could have ever imagined his little “Ant and the Grasshopper” fable playing out on a global scale, affecting billions of people?
Ah, but the commies told us WW II would never have started without it....
This is why Afghanistan does not work.
It is a land of ancient thiefdoms and warlords.
None truly believe in a federal Gov.
We on the other hand, had common alliances and and always had common enemy’s.
We formed a union with no deep divisions between us.
Who would have thought tiny Bosnia would have provided the spark for the First World War?
I am beginning to doubt the Fed myself.
The Balkans still are a confluence of allegiances.
