The Founding Fathers gave Jackson money????

No. It just seems like he's been shaking down people for that long.

Our Founding Fathers would have hung Jesse Jackson and Hugo Chavez on principle alone.

The “Founding Fathers” wouldn’t have let either of them in the front door! You’re a race pimp Jackson.

Who cares what Jesse Jackson has to say...when did the Black Community say to themselves, “we need one person to speak for all of us?” Yet another self-appointed ding-bat blowing off his mouth to make the news...if jumping off a bridge was the in things and the news was reported the hell out of it - he would be jumping off a bridge! (...now, how do we convince the media to cover such stories...)

Jackson is delusional ~ of the first 15 Presidents 5 didn’t ever own slaves. Guess that’s one of the problems o growing old and senile ~ you just plain old forget stuff.

Who are you including in the 5? There may have been more than 5.

Definitely John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Millard Fillmore, Franklin Pierce, and James Buchanan were never slaveholders. Martin Van Buren's father was a slaveowner at one point but I don't know if Martin himself was ever the legal owner of another human being.

Likewise with William Henry Harrison--his father, Benjamin Harrison, was a Virginia plantation owner, but he joined the army at the age of 18 after his father's death and spent the rest of his life in the Northwest Territory, Indiana Territory or the State of Ohio, except for a year as US Minister to Colombia or living in Washington as a Congressman or Senator (and for one month as President). The Northwest Territory was closed to slavery before he went there. He may have been a legal heir to some of his father's slaves (he was the youngest of 7 children) but that may have depended on his father's will (if there was a will).

Bill Harrison, GGGGrandpa Bill as he is known to his descendants, tried to extend slavery into Indiana ~ and he owned slaves elsewhere.

The records show 5 ~ but there are 2 others out of that first 15 who didn't own any slaves while they were in office.

George Washington got Virginia's statutes revised so an owner ~ himself for example ~ could free his slaves in his will, which he did.

I had not heard that about William Henry Harrison trying to extend slavery into Indiana.

A large proportion of the early settlers of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois were from Southern states. Some of Virginia's Revolutionary War veterans got land in Ohio. So it would not be surprising if some of them brought their pro-slavery attitudes with them.

I read once that after Illinois became a state (and therefore was no longer bound by the Northwest Ordinance's prohibition of slavery) that there was a vote on whether to allow slavery and it lost by something like a 4-3 ratio. Surprisingly close since slavery had never existed there (except among Indians and perhaps French colonists). Of course Illinois people later hired slaves from Kentucky so some slaves worked in Illinois even if it was a free state.

I can compare Chavez to the Founding Fathers: He was like them to the extent that he peed standing up, well, at least until near the end. That’s about it.

Jesse Jackson: “Well, you know, democracies mature, Our first 15 presidents owned people. They owned slaves. Democracies mature.”

Yeah, but Democrats don't. Institutionalized racism in the United States persisted longest in the South, which was then Democrat-controlled. They didn't mature. They were replaced.
