I was watching “Missississippi Burning” with Gene Hackman on “On Demand” last night. The actor that plays Merle plays a redneck, and tries to act real tough with the older city-man Hackman. Hard to believe he was still recognizable though - the movie was from 1988. I didn’t think “Merle” could be that old.

Michael Rooker (Merle) has been around for a while.
One of those actors who has been a fixture in Hollywood but never become a major star. I think some actually prefer it that way.

I think I read the actor is in his 50s.

In Tombstone, Michael Rooker played the cowboy who switched sides to fight on the side of Wyatt Earp.
