Just endlessly repeated blog postings, although there is a pretty well-known story (Washington Post) about someone unnamed high up in intelligence and counter-terrorism who is a convert to Islam.

True, but the following helps to clarify some things and is plausible in the context of actions the US government has been engaging in since the initiation of the ‘Arab Spring’:

Brennan did indeed serve as CIA station chief in Riyadh in the 1990s and today holds the official title of Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism. On Jan. 7, Obama nominated Brennan as the next director of the CIA, though he has yet to be confirmed.

“Are you kidding me?” Trento balked at Guandolo’s allegations. “The head of the CIA is a Muslim? For real? … Are you sure?”

“Yes I am,” Guandolo asserted. “The facts of the matter are confirmed by U.S. government officials who were also in Saudi Arabia at the time that John Brennan was serving there and have direct knowledge. These are men who work in very trusted positions, they were direct witnesses to his growing relationship with the individuals who worked for the Saudi government and others and they witnessed his conversion to Islam.”

The manner in which the ‘Arab Spring’ unfolded appears to use a CIA template that perhaps started with US fostering of ‘Solidarity’ and looks like a sibling of the various ‘color’ actions such as the ‘Rose Revolution’ in Georgia that split ethnic units off of the former Soviet Union.

Without going into the mobilization strategies that appear to have been employed in the ‘Arab Spring’ one has to ask the important ‘who/whom’ question. Why would the United States wish to destabilize a notoriously volatile region where US national interests would appear to be served by the preservation of calm to the maximum degree possible.

There are potent elements in the Near East who do have a very different set of interests. These are Jihadist Muslims. These do not represent a fringe or marginalized group of violent crackpots as they are often presented. They represent the Salafist (From the Founders or Fundamentalist) strain of Islam. Their goal is the resurrection of the Caliphate. Many members of the Royal House of Saudi Arabia embrace or at least support this philosophy as to a disproportionate share of the governmental and clerical leadership of SA.
These people are not al Quada although AQ are Jihadist who want a new Caliphate. AQ also wants, as much as we can tell, to overthrow the House of Saud and replace what they see as a corrupt deviationist regime with a true ‘Right guided’ regime around which the new Caliphate would be organized.

Many US diplomatic personnel who make careers of serving in the Mid East or in Mid East oriented staff positions at the State department or embedded in CENTCOM (and I suppose now AFRICOM) headquarters have traditionally become classic examples of ‘clientism’ in which they come to identify with the views, culture, and interests of Muslim Arabs more than the interests and culture of the United States. Considering the long involvement of the CIA and even the US armed forces in the region the growth of similar attitudes by insider policy makers seems logical. Anyone who has spent any significant time in the Middle East and who doesn't have a floridly materialistic and sensualist lifestyle can relate that Muslims they work with or socialize with will begin making innocuous appearing inquiries as to whether the American would like to ‘gain a deeper insight into the culture and religion’ of the Arabs. That generally leads to some pleasant meetings with some dignified and courteous ‘Ulamas’, clerics, who start by exploring the supposed similarities between Christianity and Islam and how Islam is a ‘refined and perfected’ Christianity. If one shows any interest these meeting will continue on and on as the westerner is drawn further into Islamic society until finally either the Westerner will indicate an interest in studying with a Ulama or this will be proffered. This is the beginning of the real conversion process and if the Westerner has gone that far conversion will most likely occur. If the convert is a diplomat, CIA operative, or military officer his ‘teachers’ will strongly discourage having the convert openly declare his conversion. An ‘Arab Muslim name’ may be bestowed on the convert but he will be directed to maintain his old name and identity and appear to have no open religious affiliation with Islam. He will be well instructed in ‘takiya’ or the ‘doctrines of simulation’ to hide his new religious identity while using his position to aid the cause of ‘umma’, the Islamic nation and to work for reestablishing the Caliphate.

Since the beginning of the ‘Arab Spring’ secularist regimes have been toppled in Egypt, Libya and Tunisia. In the first two Islamist regimes have come to power. These are not perfect Islamist regimes in the eyes of the Salifist but they are a transitional mode which allows the Muslim Brothers to be gradually converted to a thoroughly Jihadist regime in a covert manner that will not be revealed until the appropriate time. In Libya the jihadist figure that their organizational capacity, religious fanaticism and lots of Saudi petro-dollars will assure their triumph over semi-bandit tribal oriented groups. In Algeria and Tunisia the Jihad is on the march in different ways. In Algeria the largely dormant Islamist movement is stirring to life as demonstrated in the recent gas field raid. In Tunisia the Islamists are organizing thoroughly and comprehensively looking forward to taking over through the electoral process or if necessary mass violent action. The assassination of the head of the largest ‘non Islamic’ Muslim political party in Tunisia last week points to an underground campaign of intimidating Muslim politicians who resist this program and reject becoming Jihadist fellow travelers.

The Syrian upheaval appears to be a combination of CIA type armed subversion in conjunction with a Jihadist uprising funded and directed from Saudi Arabia. The same seems to be happening in Iraq where in the Sunni triangle and Al Anbar Sunni Islamist militias are strongly ramifying into the power void left by the US departure. Sunni Iraqis whether Islamist or not support these as a way to contain the Shia controlled central government and their Iranian proxies.

So unseen by most of the ‘policy ‘ elite in Washington a covert Islamist campaign is on the verge of planting Jihadist regimes in Egypt, Syria and large areas of Iraq. In plain sight a new Caliphate is rising. Its goals are Jihadizing the Middle East and putting forces in place to contain Iran (the Alawite regime in Syria is iran’s only ally in the region). Perhaps even the Israelis can maneuvered into expending men, money and equipment in squashing Hezbollah, another hated Shia heretical group. maybe the Israelis can be drawn into a perpetual war in south Lebanon against an ever shifting galaxy of islamist fighters. The US Navy can continue to contain the detested Shia in the Arab Gulf. Meanwhile the new Caliphate can grow stronger and obtain nuclear weapons to balance those the Persian Shia have. Finally the day will come when the new crypto Caliphate can be strong enough to launch its Jihad against Israel as the Mameluke sultans did against the crusader Kingdom.

I have never been a conspiracy aficionado but the pieces now seem to fall into place. A crypto Muslim at the elbow of a philo-Muslim President quietly pushing an agenda developed in Riyadh and Cairo. Now the same shadowy figure emerging as the head of the Central Intelligence Agency. The position that is the very pinnacle of the US intelligence and crypto military establishment. It reads like a Brad Thor novel doesn't it? But it is all to plausible.

PS Two fairly short books give a lot of insight into this hidden techtronic shift:
‘Future Jihad’ by Walid Phares and ‘God's Terrorists, the Wahabi Cult and the Hidden Roots of Modern Jihad’ by Charles Allen

Well, if Brennan is Muslim, he must pray to Allah towards Mecca five times a day. Hasn’t anyone inside or outside the administration ever seen him do this? I mean five times a day is pretty disruptive. If it is true, somebody must know this for a fact.
