so why hold whatever this kook said to such lofty standards of proof
the circumstantial evidence that he may hold such views and grudges is very strong

This is a little different than that:
First of all, it was not a quote from a so-called news organization even. It was posted on what amounts to an online blog.
Second, with his very extreme criticism of the LAPD naming names and all, that there could be many who would like to shut him up and go away (perhaps for good). What better way than to paint him as a crazy murderer that could (and should) be shot on site.
Think about it... If he really had a target list that he was working through in some sort of “craze”, why would he post anything until he was done, if at all. The posting almost guarantees that he will be killed by the LAPD.
And nobody will ask any questions.
