The following letter was sent to the Delaware General Assembly with a copy submitted to the Cape Gazette for publication.
We are writing you today to share the voices of 1,500-plus who attended (along with 300 to 400 who were turned away) the 2nd Amendment Freedom Rally this past Sunday in Dover, organized and sponsored by the 9-12 Delaware Patriots and Delaware State Sportsmen's Association on the current gun control issue.
We believe in the Delaware Constitution as well as the U.S. Constitution. They define the purposes and limits of government. They are a carefully poured foundation by the founders of both our state and country. We are confident that you are completely aware of the oath of office, in which you swore or affirmed to "always uphold and defend" our country's and state's constitution. We strongly encourage you to read the words of our Delaware Constitution on the right to keep and bear arms;
Section 20. A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and state, and for hunting and recreational use. Having read these words and remembering the words of your oath, we trust that you will honor the people that you represent by not usurping the constitution, but by upholding its wisdom.
Gov. Jack Markell, Lt. Gov. Matt Denn and Attorney General Beau Biden's proposals are not about keeping our children safe. These proposals are about an agenda to ban guns from law-abiding citizens. Not one law-abiding citizen has ever taken a gun into a school, theater, workplace or someone's home and used it to cause harm. However, many many law-abiding citizens have used their guns to protect life...

They’re wasting their time.Delaware is a one-party state. What is feared in Texas from an influx of liberals from the blue states happened in DE over 20 years ago, and I fled the place when I saw the inevitable. Bill Roth wouldn’t stand a chance getting elected there now .
I’m here in DE in Sussex County, in the south, where it is still very conservative and Republicans can get elected.
Delaware has three counties, and the population lessens the further you travel from north to south. In Sussex, the flavor is actually Southern in nature, as we are bounded on two sides by the Mason-Dixon line.
The 9-12 Delaware Patriots is a great organization, which any Freeper would be proud to be a part of.
1,500 people attended a gun rights meeting in Dover, our State’s capitol, last Sunday. Over 300 had to be turned away due to capacity of the venue. In a state of just less than one million people that is a lot of people for a Sunday.
My State Senator and my Assemblywoman have heard from me, and both are pro gun.
Delaware’s election results are essentially a 40% GOP-60% Democrat state. The northern county, New Castle,is blue and is the most liberal, and has the cities of Wilmington and Newark(pronounced New-ARK, not New-werk!). Their sheer numbers carry the elections. The middle county, Kent, is purple, splitting to red below Dover. Sussex is red, but trending blue, as more and more of the government class retire here from DC/Maryland areas, for the beaches and low taxes here.
We keep trying but in this state, an idiot like Joe Biden can get elected to the Senate for 36 years. Think of it as being a big fish in a very small pond.
Delaware, especially below Wilmington is sort of geographically isolated, and the gene pool hasn’t changed much, meaning new ideas and modernity come slowly.
That is part of the charm here, but if you are used to high paced living, you will need a major attitude adjustment to live here.
People where I live are still of a small town mind, very pleasant and polite. We start our Town Council meetings with an invocation by the Mayor, that kind of thing. Property taxes are low, and the roads and schools are excellent. Coming from high tax NJ, it was a bit of a shock to see a place where things actually work, at one fourth the property tax rate.
There is a direct connection between our Governor and the White House, because of the geographical proximity, and because of Joe Biden. Joe’s son, Beau, is our Attorney General.
It is an uphill battle here, but we are trying.
Our Senators, Carper and Coons, and Congressman(we only have one Congressman-at large)are all Dems, but they hear from me regularly. It feels like pissing on the wind, but America is too great to give up on.
Our State Senate and Assemly are now run by the Dems, so in some ways I feel like I am behind enemy lines. At least here in my corner of DE, it is still red-ish, so that gives some relief.
Democrats are the enemies of freedom. If we cannot break their stranglehold on our government, they will ruin our nation. We cannot make it easy for them.
You didn’t read the part where I said “I FLED”. I grew up in Dover when there were less than 10,000 folks there, and am familiar with every piece of 2 lane blacktop in the state.
I travel Sussex Co. many times a week.
The PA/NJ/NY invasion has flipped the state blue. It is great that conservatives can still get elected in Laurel or Bridgeville, but they are drowned out by the leftists upstate. Keep up the good fight, maybe there is hope.
Check your PMs, please.
LOL! Oh, yes, I saw where you said “fled”. Funny, I fled form NJ to come to DE and you left DE.
I know you already know the stuff in my previous post, but I figure there are plenty of folks reading the thread that are not familiar with DE.
The GOP in the state is a shambles. We unseated Mike Castle, and the northern GOP has never forgiven us for that, but he needed to go. Too bad! The problems with the GOP in general nationwide the past few years are seen in a microcosm here in DE.
It’s uphill here, as you said. The Dems made real gains last November.
PM reply to you,sir.
Nice to see you two have met!!!
The DeGOP has been a shambles since the 80s and the crowning blow to it was Carper unseating Bill Roth.
The incestuous nature between the Rs and Ds was a plus way back in the day, but even that disappeared with Pete DuPont.
As to you fleeing NJ to DE and us fleeing DE to VA much was for the same reasons. Taxes are lower, regulations less, the politics are better, etc.
Hi Gabz! Good to hear from you.
Virginia is a favorite state-so much history, and natural beauty. hope you can keep trending toward GOP control.
Youngest son moves to VA next week from NJ. So, I will be seeing even more of your great state soon.
I see you already know the wife!...go figure. I do enjoy hearing Bill Colley on the radio on my drives through Lower Slower DE.
Cb,didn’t realize you were family. great!
I listen to Bill Colley, called in a lot to his show when he was on in the afternoons. listened to Rush from 12-3; then Bill from 3-7.
Now Bill is on in the mornings. due to a veryopular morning host who left his station suddenly, Bill had to take the morning gig to keep the station going.
He ‘s a great guy, and have met him personally. high quality.
Forgive some missed capitulizations-using an IPAD2 which doesn’t always agree with my use of the English language.
