This mass retreat paves a clear path for House Republicans to easily pass tomorrow's debt ceiling bill. That legislation basically suspends the debt ceiling limit for four months, with the expectation that the Senate will pass a budget in that time.
On Wednesday, the White House signaled that President Barack Obama would sign the Republican debt ceiling bill, should it pass the Senate.
"He will not stand in the way," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters. "We support the extension of the debt ceiling without drama or delay."

Surprise. Surprise. Republicans are good on caving, playing defense, cowering, not showing leadership, and generally doing things with the ultimate goal of thinking the Democrats will like them if they only are nice.

They should change their mascot to the cave bear.

We’ll see, should be a good idea to pound on the Dems for the next four months for spending cuts and have that to show when the debt ceiling comes up again.
Of course we all expect the RINOs to fold in exchange for ‘unicorn cuts’ in future spending that will never happen but who knows?
The Republicans, RINOs as well as conservatives, will suffer horribly in 2014 if action isn’t taken on spending. Someone in the Party is bound to realize that!

Too many cowardly asshats still occupy the Republican side of the House.
In 2014, every RINO must be purged, especially the feckless leader, Boehner.

Well, this actually puts the onus on the Senate. The Republicans can sit back and make the Senate pass a budget with this. It also puts the nuclear option in the public’s eye.

Oh hallelujah - there will be rejoicing amongst the gang on the left with their plan to destroy the GOP. There will also be NO FIGHT on the CR no matter what they are professing simply because they are so afraid of the media and the WH blaming them for a GOV shutdown.
IMHO what is the difference - stand tall because the GOP is going to be blamed for everything that is wrong with America anyway now that we have "Our Lord and Savior" about to bring us all fully into utopia, and set right all the misdeeds of 230+ years. /s

I have no problem passing a short term extension to get something done, but if it is done as suspending it for four months, what kind of precedent does that set? It needs to be clear, or the leftists will hammer us later for that type of action. ‘they suspended it before, why not now?’ Our side always seems to cower under those accusations these days.

It’s not caving if you read the bill. They’re playing offense and it worked. Now they have set the next battle’s playing field just right.

Thats OK,the “Grand Old Party” will get ‘em next time. Keep kicking that ca down that long dust road.

Maybe we are switching tactics to the approach of giving Obama everything he wants and see how big the fire is when it all collapses... Just step aside as the US goes over the cliff, maybe actually add a little more gasoline so the explosion is more complete. It's tempting, but we need more guns and ammo along will Mel Gibson's leather and dog for what happens next.

Weren’t we told just a little while ago that, although the Republicans caved on taxes, the real fight would be over raising the debt ceiling? This is laughable. Since no one is listening to our point of view, we may as well start a third party.
To: Wisconsinlady
I think they should raise the debt ceiling to one nonillion dollars, you know, as a protest. Plus, it would be fun and educational.
