A FEW years ago, I awoke at 2:30 a.m. to more than a rapping, rapping at my chamber door. It was a full-force pounding of a body trying to break into my little house in Washington, D.C. It was the sound and scenario that, as a single woman living alone, I feared more than spiders in the house.
Because I was writing political speeches at the time, my BlackBerry slept on the pillow beside me. I grabbed it and looked out my bedroom window at the stoop below. There he was: tall, dark clothes, big. He backed up and then raced to the door, pounding his body against it. Then he kicked at it the way actors take boots to the heads of bad guys in the movies.
I dialed 911 and ran downstairs, my 100-pound Newfoundland with me.
I gave the dispatcher my address, let her know that I lived around the corner from a police station and said, Please hurry. She heard the loud noise and remained on the line with me.
I put the BlackBerry on speaker and pushed a heavy armchair toward the door. I watched as the wood expanded with each pound. The white paint splintered some. The deadbolt held at the top, but the bottom half of the door popped open, letting in the steam heat from the summer night. I took that chair and slammed it so the side pushed the door back in line with the frame. I held that chair with everything my 5 foot 3 inches had. My dog sat right by me on the rug, ready...

[[I guess she never heard of the one thing that will always be there should people decide to commit Suicide, GRAVITY.]]
She’s hoping the pres will outlaw gravity too- you know, so she’ll be ‘safe from herself’- apparently thouhg the only way she knows abotu killing herself would be with a gun- Most owmen use sleeping pilsl or medications (Which this woman’s medicine chest must be chokerblock full of meds)- but again, apparently she isn’t imaginitive enough to think beyond simply using a gun-
Either that or the author is even dumber than she is depressed.
[[Please Take Away My Right to a Gun]]
Sure- gladly, and while we’re at it, we’ll also take away your right to free speech too- since you don’t really care abotu rights anyways- we’re certain you won’t mind never being able to give assinine itnerviews again, right?
This woman is free and on the streets? Shouldn’t kkkuomo be ordering an emergency mental health exam for her since she’s CLEARLY indicagted that she might be a danger to herself or others?
reminds me of those Readers Digest stories
“testifying in the federal criminal trial of John Edwards, my former boss”
The woman who wrote this article is a journalist, a liberal Democrat, a resident of Washington D.C. and a former employee of liberal Democrat John Edwards. This woman should not be allowed anywhere near a firearm. It is no surprise, with a life like that, she is depressed to the point of being suicidal.
Is it possible she has no idea that those things can be used to commit suicide? Yet she hasn't. This story is phony.
Articles that explain how modern liberals suffer from a mental disorder.
“Please Take Away My Right to a Gun”
How about you just move to North Korea, you spineless puke. I heard they have a fine use for guys who are ball-less.
A mentally ill political speech writer. Gee, I wonder which
party she writes for.
They are much likelier to hurt themselves in the shower or with their car. Are they begging us to take those away from them, too?
Well, hell. If I worked for john edwards, I’d be depressed too.
Why would you need a gun to kill yourself? Most women don’t do it like that anyway. Is there a shortage of pills, tall buildings, and bridges where she lives?
We have the God-given right to defend ourselves, and as such, the right to any means that makes it easier to defend ourselves. By the same token, an individual has the right to not avail him/herself of such means if they don’t think they can use them responsibly.
This is STILL not a reason to deprive everyone of the right.
After the break-in, my friend acquired a couple cans of bear mace and a dog. They might not be the best means of home defense, but for the time being they are the best he has to work with.
” I am also in favor of a constitutional amendment that says that if you complain about taxes being too low - your taxes automatically get raised by 10%. And each time you complain again, your taxes go up another 10%.”
This sounds very similar to my grandmother’s approach to complaints about her cooking (at least according to my dad).
Having had Nana’s cooking on a few occasions, I can understand why one would complain. :)
By her logic, she should also not be allowed to buy knives, ropes, gas ovens, drain cleaner, razor blades, pharmaceuticals, rat poisons, automobiles, bathtubs, toasters, hair dryers, and anything else she could use to kill herself. She also needs to be banned from tall buildings, bridges, cliffs, oceans, lakes, ponds, or anywhere else she could throw herself off or drown herself.
From what I’ve seen over the years, Women “attempt” Suicide through various means (which sometimes involves making a phone call before the deed is done), Men just eat a bullet.
Which still makes me wonder what really happened to RFK Jr’s Ex Wife last year. I’m not used to the idea of Women hanging themselves, but I’m kind of an old fashioned kind of guy.
She would probably just stick her head up Obama’s behind and suffocate herself. They would call it Gerbilcide.
I’m sure the Corpse would have a smile on its face.
I think this illustrates the difference between a “progressive” and a conservative quite well. Like Wendy Button, I too am subject to depression, and therefore I have chosen not to own a firearm (though if I may brag a bit, I’m actually a pretty good shot with a pistol). However, I would never dream of restricting the Constitutional right of others to own a firearm. I know that about *myself,* that I probably should not own a gun, and I have the self-discipline not to go out and acquire one. She, the liberal, does not seem to have that self-discipline and so wants the nanny state to do it for her (oh, and for everyone else too).
Good grief. Grow a pair, Wendy.
