Are you using a ‘real’ soundcard, or the motherboard?
IF you are using a real one, just pull it(meaning the soundcard, of course.. but also, obviously, the jack too ;)) for now and use the built-in 1.8 jack on the motherboard.

No it was a sound card, you know, one of those $12.00 no-name jobs waaaaaay down at the end of the rack... at the bottom!
Just haven’t taken the time to fix it, typical for me, I am in the biz. Two Novell certifications and been working computers and network analyst for 23 years. So, of course my computer is a literal pile of junk.
It’s kind of like getting a car mechanic to work on their own car...
