“I am going to venture to say that part of the problem is that people who don’t need anti-depressants are taking them.”

We have a winner.

They’re being prescribed to women going through menopause.

Menopause is a normal, natural thing..not a “mental illness”.

It became ‘hip’ to take Prozac in the 90’s because it causes ‘weight loss’ in many people.

Hollyweirdos took it just for that.

They’re [over]prescribed for things that are actually just normal life events, such as a loss of a loved one, a job, your hair, whatever.

*Everything* is “depression”, now.

The true, _clinically depressed_ [idiopathic depression arising from no identifiable emotional upheaval or physical cause] are fairly rare.

But, the pills are very profitable and the masses very gullible.

So, here we are, a Prozac nation.

You may have left out a large segment of kids (and adults) who are wrapped up in the Social Services mess. The extra checkmarks in the file mean more funding to the Social Workers, 'disability' money for the kid, and all they have to do is say "I'm sad".

Well, if I was growing up in subsidized housing with only one parent, money tight, and all the social/peerage issues that can cause when you're a kid, I'd be "sad", too. That's the reason to bust butt and do better, and instead these kids are being medicated.

How in the heck are kids going to learn to cope with day to day living if they aren't allowed to develop coping skills beyond "mother's little helper".

No wonder they are so fouled up when they get older.
