Actually, they morphed the riot idea from what happened in Cairo much earlier in the day. It was the Embassy in Cairo that floated the excuse in a statement directed at its attack. This crowd was whipped up for a 911 protest that was allowed to get ugly for media purposes.
For some reason, most of the American staff was not there that day. So was that orchestrated as a prelude to what was to happen that evening? I still contend that it was and the terrorists who conducted the assault were only given instructions to get the Ambassador, not to kill him.
When he went into the safe room, the idiots (terrorists) just figured they would smoke him out. It works for animals during hunt in Africa so why not here? The problem resulted when they used diesel fuel to spread the fire inside the building and the resulting smoke killed their “hostage”.
Now the administration had a real problem when he did not walk out under his own power and they had to try the riot story hoping the media would carry the water like always. That is why they stuck with the story for so long because the real story was just too icky to accept responsibility for.
Plus, they were now scrambling for anything to cover up the fact they were complicit in a deal to create a prisoner swap for the Blind Sheik. If you don’t think that is plausible, then why the leaked stories the week before that State was considering the release of the terrorist bassturd to the new regime in Egypt. It worked so well for the PanAm 103 bomber, now didn’t it?
I’m buyng the hostage thing for now but in the long run Stevens had to go. He had so much baggae that could have really put a bad light on the regime there no way he would have been allowed to live.It appears he knew everyone in the mideast,was incredibly well connected, had all the connections needed to do most anything and if the regime was ever associated with all that they would have some huge splanin’ to do.
If nothign else his days in Chicago with rhambo and zero in the bathhouses was a smoking gun bound to come out sooner or later.
If you will notice the DBM never ever alluded to the fact that Stevens was gay.
If they did they know a whole lotta unsavory stuff would have come out to bite the reigme in the butt.
Not only that but everyone knows what terror types think about gays and what they do to them when captured. It happened to Stevens and its still a big unreported story.
