Some small misapprehensions with both of your responses: 7.62 NATO is .308 Winchester, more or less, just 5.56 NATO is .223 Remington in civilian. Hollow point ammunition is less effective against body armor than ball ammunition but is far more effective against flesh, so much so that it is a war crime for our armed forces to use it against our enemies.

The amount of ammunition they are buying is staggering: The entire US Atlantic Fleet annual requalification process used about 15 million rounds of .45 ACP circa 1978. What on earth would 500 times that much ammunition be used for, even over 5 years? Why would anyone use expensive and less reliable hollow point ammunition for training?

This whole mess has me losing sleep at night. I think that this regime has planned far more effectively than we have and we are about to find out about it before we have any chance at all to organize and prepare.

Why do LEOs use hollow point instead of ball.

At that volume the price different is most likely not that great.

Only one kind to stock, liability with only kid of ammo it easy to say we train with what we carry.

One thing I was thinking is that drones could be a big threat to anyone opposing the government if it did come to a civil war. It might be worth trying to figure out some countermeasures and have them ready just in case.

The Iranians have successfully brought at least one drone down via GPS spoofing, so that is one thing to look at. GPS signals are very weak, so even quite a low powered transmitter might be able to disrupt drone operations over quite a wide area.

Also, drones operate via a satellite link, so maybe there’s some way of jamming that, or of taking the satellites offline. In a civil war, bringing down the government communication network would certainly tip the odds a long way in your favour anyway.

Hopefully it never comes to that, but there seems to be a mass drift towards totalitarianism underway throughout the western world at the moment, and IMHO it’s a good idea to keep hoping for the best but start preparing for the worst just in case!
