Good friends of mine adopted a 2 year old, and when that little boy was five, birth mom showed up out of nowhere and wanted to muscle in on how he was raised, wanted visitation rights, wanted him to call her "mommy"....in every way a heartbreaking situation and it's still not resolved.
IMO the birth mother has no, repeat no, role until the child is of age and at that time wishes to make contact.
yes, we had friends who experienced tremendous sadness when they had adopted an infant and then 10 months later the mom reclaimed her rights and the child went back to her. My friends had it quite tough for a while, but they later happily adopted twins from Korea. They were doubly blessed!
So sad that Russia has stopped adoptions by Americans. My heart breaks for those who were already on that path, saw a photo or video of their child or even had visited them and got to know them, and now that process is halted. So very sad!
