We like the Navy - anytime we needed to fight, you guys gave us a ride! - Just kidding! I have a lot of faith in the knowledge that most currently in uniform would disobey any order that demanded action against the American public. At that moment, we would all need to rise and take action on the authority that demanded it in the first place. Heck, not even the Russian military obeyed those orders.

Correct... I was part of the the ‘last hurrah’ of the up close close Gator Navy, first ship was an APA that basically had to anchor ‘line of site’ to beach and one of my first GQ’s stations was on LCVP crew, then went to an LST, also had the LCVPs BUT were capable of ‘crashing onto the beach’.
Actually way way back in ‘56 I was gung ho to join ‘The Corps’, went to school on my 17th birthday, quit in my Sr Yr, went down to the local LA USMC recruiting office (which was a shared facility) presented my young skinny body to ‘The Corps’ and the Gunny was out of the office.
This friendly Navy Chief gave me a cup of coffee, BS’d me for a couple of minutes and said “Same test, come on in and we will see how you will do”. 1 month and 1 day later I and a few other lads with ‘anchors in their eyes’ assembled at the LA Coliseum on Armistice Day to be sworn in at half time of the LA Rams/SF 49’er NFL game. So, with official entrance day,— witnessed by 100,000 +-(?) screaming fans — I officially enlisted in the USN on 10NOV56, which, in case you need reminding (<: <:) is USMC Birthday.
Semper Fi!! Lets run down to the Tun Tavern to hoist a tankard or two or three....etc...
