When we hear a politician proclaim himself libertarian instead of conservative, then we know that he means that he is socially liberal, that he is OK with the liberal/libertarian social gains of the last 60 years.
I don't pretend a damn thing and I'm sure as hell not as confused as you. I believe what I believe and I use a dictionary term to describe what I believe. Libertarianism as a term long predates any political party by that name. The Libertarian Party didn't invent the term.
