Great knife by the way. I have the straight edge-black.
Heh, I am not, though I have admired the character as a bit of a dark hero, I do confess.
I first learned of Spyderco and Lecter’s appreciation of those knives reading Hannibal by Thomas Harris.
It seemed he preferred the Harpy, but eventually aquired the Civillian in his travels. While the Civillian is an absolutely wicked looking blade, I think the slenderness of the tip limits its uses to only one thing, while the shape of the Harpy lends it to many uses, including self defense.
I have had two Harpies since that read. My first had a synthetic handle, but that one was stolen when my car was stolen in New Orleans. A criminal got that one, and I hope it was never put to any criminal use. I replaced that one with the stainless steel handle model, and have enjoyed that one ever since.
If anyone has an interest, go to eBAY and search ‘Stek Knives.’ Craig Stekette. He uses mostly Damascus Steel. In the old days he got it from Harley Chains. No longer. He is a custom knife maker and also has various hunting,Bowie, skinning knives available. Prices run $150-up.
