Shortly after the collapse of the Soviet Union, there was an international conference in Europe which was attended by high-ranking military officers from a number of countries.
During a break in the meetings, a group of military officers were gathered together, enjoying their refreshments and engaging in small talk.
One of the Americans asked his counter-part, a Russian general, if the Soviet Union had ever considered invading the United States during the Cold War. The Russian general laughed and said, “Oh no! You people have too many guns over there!”
No kidding. During the Apollo/Soyuz days when the Cosmonauts were training at NASA in Houston, a hunting buddy of mine, among others, took the Cosmonauts to the Houston Astrohall gun show.
They were asked not to speak and raise any attention.
There were about 3500 tables at the time and being it was before 1986, there were table after table of Class3’s.
I would have loved to be the fly on the wall the next time they called Moscow.
