Still don’t get why people believed Cronkite said about Tet.
Several reasons.
1) Cronkitre had already been billed as "the most trusted man in America" long before the Tet story.
2) there was no internet to verify whether the information was true or not. In those days, as today, the media controlled what news got reported and what news didn't.
3) The media gave Kerry and Fonda intense credibility because they had "been there", plus Fonda was a celebrity. The troops were considered biased if they opposed what Kerry said. Since practically none of us had the same access to microphones and cameras that media darling Kerry did, the real story never got out because the media had gone beyond reporting to manipulating the news and Kerry was a convenient tool.
