Razor blades were used to carefully scratch out old writing and write over. Surface of paper becomes a bit coarse vs. the rest around the scratch. Ink of correction gets a bit rough on edges.

Was “White-Out” available in 1961?

Michael Nesmith's mother perfected Liquid Paper in 1956, but it wasn't until the mid-60's that it became popular.

Analysis of the correction fluid could yield clues.. Correction fluid wasn’t widely used until the late ‘60s..
