Received this bit of agitprop/glurge from my sister-in-law today, who I'm disappointed to see is falling for this gun-control nonsense:

Hi Everyone,

If you feel compelled to take action based on the horrific images that you've seen on the news this past week, one way to make a difference is to send an email to Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont. He will be holding hearings for the senate judiciary committee next month regarding gun legislation. He has been pro gun in the past, although the images of 6 year olds being brutally gunned down by a deranged psychopath will hopefully bring his opinion around to a more measured approach to gun regulations.

The only way the government acts is when it hears from it's citizens, but often times we are too busy in our lives to act. The NRA has had the stage with strong lobbyists and outspoken barking whenever and wherever anyone talks of any type of sane measure on the regulation and common sense use of guns. That's the mindset that has gotten us to this tragic place. It's past time when mothers, fathers, grandparents and genuinely caring individuals with no profit motive take the stage and demand that the government take action to make sure that we never see another massacre of innocents - which tragically could some day be one of our own children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews.

I believe that assault weapons need to be banned and that trafficking guns should be a felony. Both are currently totally legal at this time.

You'll need to put in your contact information, it may take a few minutes but it will be well worth the effort so that the message our elected officials hear when they deliberate next month is a message of common sense, not paranoia. They will also hear the voices of many folks who believe that this madness truly has to end.

Maybe while he's at it, the "pro gun in the past" Senator will consider:

• illegalizing insanity
• conducting an inquiry into the "Gunwalker" atrocity foisted by this administration
• reconsidering his cameo appearances in Batman movies in which irresponsible gun use is not only featured, but celebrated.
