To: A_perfect_lady Maybe you can give classes in the use of the apostrophe to members of FR.
I'm afraid that it wouldn't take. The overwhelming majority cannot conceive of how "its" is different from "it's." And almost no one on FR can understand that the plural of proper nouns is not made by placing an apostrophe at the end of the word followed by an "s." It's the result of lack of attention when reading works by authors who know the English language.

------------- Irony follows do not take seriously, all -------------
I think you're being terribly unfair.
Based on what I read here, I believe most mis-apostrophisers use the "it is due" method. E.g. I've typed three words ending in "S" without an apostrophe so the next word ending in "S" get's (!) an apostrophe because its (!) due.
Peet (who had to teach a PHd. in english who used them interchangeably the difference between "i.e." and "e.g.")
