and just so everyone knows where we’re coming from, the right to self-defense pre-exists and pre-dates the us constitution, it is a God-given right, it is an inseperable part of the inalienable right to life - as if you have the right to life, you have the right to defend that life. that is enshrined in the 2A that we have the right to defend our lives with the same kind of emquipment our potential attackers can use on us.

it also needs to be noted that while technically only IL has no permit for guns, there really are more than just IL that don’t allow citizens to carry because they make getting a permit impossible for average people - states mostly out east like Maryland.

I guess I am a bit old fashioned in that a Father/Husband is responsible for protecting his family.
That doesn’t mean I would not arm everyone and teach them as well as I could, to defend themselves.
Around 20 years ago I read an “Old West” magazine which had a true story of a family’s battle against Indians in Texas. It was in fact my wife’s ancestors.
Things have changed a lot since then. For one thing when the army found out they were going into Comanche territory, they gave them several Spencer rifles and a huge amount of ammo.
The family picked up a young man who traveled with them. The Father mentioned in his story that the young man looked like he would be good in a fight and his guess turned out to be correct.
During the fight, everyone including the women were fighting like their lives depended on their winning which of course it did.
The genes are still there but I am not sure how much has been altered by a soft life. My guess is they would come out again if necessary.

As the need arises I write or speak with the staff members of my Congressional reps about gun rights issues, who by and large are twenty-something know-nothings.
I make it a point to educate them on the purpose of the 2nd Amendment: it’s not about hunting or even home-defense—it’s there to protect the individual against government tyranny, including our own.
