As to your first point, how many Christian preschoolers truly understand, independently, what being a Christian truly means? At what age, biologically do they actually begin to understand?
Concerning your second point, you hit across something quite relevant to your first point. What kind of Christian schools did he actually attend? A traditional kind, or one of those whose mission is more 'social justice' and little, if any at all of what we consider moral upbringing? We truly don't know, but if it is as I suspect, the adults which should have been molding his character have actually let him down badly, and may themselves be learning all about 'millstones about the neck', and 'thrown into the depths of the sea' and all that which was stated by Christ as the wages of those who cause 'little ones to stumble'.
That he is now at an age where he is possibly able to discern for himself, and is doing so is more to be commended than condemned...

He didn't find God, he found a cult. His ramblings and bizarre behaviour should have made that apparent.
His spiritual advisor is Chris Hudson of the Forerunner Chronicles. Cults like this prey on confused people like Jones and bleed them dry. Hopefully you don't think this is to be commended.
