Yes he was: immigrated from Italy before 1900. Never took a dime from the G. Joined the calvery in WWI to get his citizenship. Hated democrates with a passion “I came here to get away from the communists and socialists, not going to vote for them”. Never joined social security because it was a “government scheme”. Unfortunately he died 50 years ago but I recall him fondly.

When I was a young boy my Mother used to take all us kids to Retirement Homes (we called them Old Folks Homes) and we would sing and basically be in Grandma and Grandpa Heaven!
That was about 50 years ago, I still remember those days and conversations... I wanted to know if any of them knew “Billy the Kid”, or “Jesse James” of course they all did and had great stories to back it up. (the Art of Storytelling has suffered greatly since TV showed up)
Like you the recollections are priceless, the older I get the more I think about those days.
Hope my Generation and the two following are as tough as those folks were (not counting on it) cause the next 20 years is not going to be much fun.
