It's really quite simple. I get it. It had nothing to do with Mitt Romney. He ran a very disciplined and focused campaign. Far superior in resources, focus, organization, and discipline than John McCain's. None of the Republicans running this year could have defeated Obama. The reasons are clear and obvious to me:
Barack Obama is implementing here in the US the very same policies Hugo Chavez has successfully implemented in Venezuela: Take over key industries. Get the majority of the population dependent on entitlements and government support programs to secure their votes. Raise taxes and redistribute wealth away from the dwindling productive classes. Ignore our colossal debt.
This has been going on for centuries. In ancient Rome politicians in the Republic and later the emperors bought off or subsidized the urban, often shiftless and unemployed urban masses with free food and entertainment and public spectacles. This was done through government largesse and increased taxes on the decreasing productive members of the society.
The problem is no one really cares---not even with spectacle of Europe collapsing under monstrous debt levels and unsustainable entitlement programs. With $16 trillion in debt, one could plausibly argue that the US is already effectively bankrupt---we have more debt than all of the EU countries combined.
The other problem is NO SENSE OF URGENCY about any of this. Looking at the overall vote totals, 14 million fewer voters particpated in the election than four years ago. John McCain actually received more votes than Mitt Romney.
Democracy really cannot work, Our founding fathers set up a limited government constitutional republic, not an unlimited government mass democracy. Our founders feared mob rule and for good reason. They knew the masses would eventually vote for themselves more benefits at the expense of others. That is why they set up the Electoral College and required voters in federal elections to be property owners. A very wise idea in retrospect.
The situation is made worse by our dysfunctional public education syatem. Where young minds are inculcated at very young age by neo-Marxist teachers unions and later radical university professors where they are taught far more about Martin Luther King and Cesar Chavez and social justice than they are taught about George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Patrick Henry, and Benjamin Franklin. If our young people were properly instructed, they would know that the entire purpose of the Constitution was to limit the power, size, and scope of the Federal Government, and leave most powers to state and local governments while at the same time protecting inndividual liberty and private property rights.
Our pathetic pop culture, depraved Hollyweird celebrities, not to mention a professional news media nearly 90% in the tank for the Democrat Party in every election simply hasten our plunge into the abyss.
We have to try. And by that, I mean, we have to fix the GOP so that they don't nominate someone who doesn't represent us. And we have to fix the citizenry so that they understand what is best for the country and vote for who is best for the job and not skin color or blind party allegiance or who promises the biggest handout.
I will not discount that as an option.
And yes, I'm very proud of our state today.
I know we are often laughed at for being not too sharp hicks, think we disproved that big time yesterday.
Lofty ideals, but time ran out...............Seriously.
While it's true that we do tear each other down over individual traits, the fact is that this was a bad candidate. He didn't suffer just in one or two traits, he missed the boat on most of them.
I truly couldn't decide which was better Romney or Obama. When it came to the economy both had pros and cons, but really neither had a clue. When it came to social values, I hated them both. In the end, I voted third party, which I've never ever done before.
It's not something we can accomplish in one election. It's going to take a serious long term plan to fight stupid.
My opinion is that the Republicans in general and Conservatives in particular either do not or refuse to understand the mindset that is the "squishy middle" out there. As we did with the Muslims in the mid-1970s, we want to think that this group will listen to reasoned arguments and act rationally when the pluses and minuses are added up.
I note a Facebook entry this morning from a friend and former colleague whom I lump into this middle group.
Election ....check!
Now back to the more important issues...DWTS, The Voice, RHOBH, and The 49ers!!!! Lol!!!
As long as I've known her, she is quite apolitical, more worried about her aging mother, her struggling daughter and her upcoming wedding than the impending "Fiscal Cliff", Benghazi or the Arab Spring. Where does she and others like her get their news and views of the world?
How do we remedy this? Or, more precisely, CAN we remedy this? That, my FRiends, is the $16 Trillion (and rising) question!
It’s kind of like growing up in Louisiana and fighting the “I know he’s a crook, but I like him.” mentality.
(Attitude towards Gov Edwards for those not from Louisiana)
“What else can we do secession?
I will not discount that as an option.
And yes, I’m very proud of our state today”
A lot of others in Louisiana agreed with me on seceding here last night:

The answer, if you have the stomach for it, is this: beat them at their own game, using their tactics which as you can see, work.
Get a copy of "Rules for Radicals", use Alinsky tactics.
As a starter, pick the most despicable "jornalist" (actually, propagandist) and make an example of her (Candy Crowley). She obviously lied, intentionally, during the debate to protect "the one". Find out about any think she has done wrong in her life and publicize it on the internet, talk shows, etc. Contact her sponsors, and write letters threatening boycotts, etc. She is not entitled to her propagandist job in the American media. She is poluting the American culture.
"We don't do these things", you might say, "we have principles". This is akin to the British saying, "we fight in the open" against the Americans who fought behind trees and cover. What do you think about this? I am tired of the recriminations, and want to be an activist.
Okay, and how do you feel today? If you couldn't decide one way or the other, and voted 3rd party, you can't feel bad because you already knew your candidate would lose and your vote meant nothing. Did voting 3rd party help? I voted for Romney because of the 2 he was the better choice.
I hope I am not coming across as criticizing your vote, I am not, you voted which way your conscience told you to. I am just sick of watching this country sink further into debt and felt that we had a better chance with Romney.
Please read #52 above. Do you think it unreasonable?
It probably also helps, that Romney won TN without my vote, so it's not like by voting third party, I helped put Obama back in office. Romney's negatives countered his positives, but I'll admit that with most of FR choosing Romney, there was concern that I was standing in the way of progress even if I couldn't see it in the platforms.
Like you, I'm certainly concerned about the debt. But the right way to fix the debt is to fix the economy. And neither candidate really seemed to have a clue.
Romney would have been better for energy, but then we've increased production despite Obama. And Romney's nuclear plan was a weak 2 year approval for existing sites.
Romney sparked a moment's hope that he would raise tariffs against China, only to bash it with a dependency on China's adherence to the existing rules, and a promise of opening up more free trade with more markets. It was this stance that made me think Romney might actually be worse for America than Obama.
And I usually vote social issues over pocket book, under the theory that if we are morally upright, God will bless us with wisdom on everything else. And that if we are not, it won't matter how brilliant an economic plan we have.
Romney said the right things, but he has a history of saying the right things and doing something else. And the in-congruency when he told the boy scouts to have gay leaders was thunderous.
And then there's the whole issue of putting a non-Christian in a role model position like the Presidency, not that Obama seems any better.
In the end, I'm glad I didn't have to choose between the two. I'm waiting to see if Virgil got enough votes to even get anybody's attention.
We lost because back in the day one of the greatest minds ever produced by America was Jonathan Edwards.
Morals are out the window. Now it is all about Jersey Shore, the Kardashians, Jay Z, Katy Perry.. and so we get the obummer... AGAIN.
