After 1979 ... Stanley Ann and Lolo Soetoro claim one child, over 18, dependent upon them for education expense. Catholic Social Services of Connecticut no longer had legal custody of Obama after his 18th birthday.

SOETORO-DUNHAM DIVORCE:

Just raises more questions, doesn't it? He's now nineteen years old, a Punahou High School graduate, probably no longer in Hawaii (where was he in August 1980?) Stanley Ann Dunham has returned from Indonesia (to which she would return) to divorce Lolo, and she claims 'they' have one 'child' over 18 who is still dependend on the parties for education'.

fred,
not to get into a contest with you, but US tax laws relating to dependants are complicated and many times other than parents claim the child as a dependant for those purposes even though the parent may contribute to the welfare and education. 50% is minimum for tax purposes, and only one person can claim the child for tax purposes.
