I am with you, there are still over 800,000 housholds here on Long Island without power and no gasoline around.
I’m looking on the bright side, 4.5 Million people in NY & NJ without power and no gasoline are not going to give a shit about voting on Tuesday (for the most part)- this could equal 2 to 3 Million less votes for 0bama.
There was no enthusiasm for obama before this happened, not he will get millions less votes from NY and NJ.
Imagine if he squeeked a EC victory and lost the pop vote by millions?
You know, you're not the only Freeper to have stated this; but it's a pyrrhic victory even if it were to happen.
Even if the situation helps Romney win the overall popular vote, it won't make any difference in the electoral vote.
In 2008, Obama got almost 63% of NY votes, and 57% of NJ votes.
Of whatever % stay home due to flooding aftermath issues, that % is going to roughly effect GoP voters to the same degree it effects Dem voters.
IoW, while the turnout might be effected, and while Romney is likely to come closer to Obama than McCain did, the overall ratio is not likely to be altered all that much...even in NJ...
IN 2008 NJ had over 3.8 million voters...McCain got less than 42% of the 2008 vote in NJ...So Obama won 57-41% there (over 2.2 million voters to McCain's over 1.6 million voters...)
So, even if you depress the NJ vote by say...20%...you still have over 3 million NJ voters...
It makes no sense to say that the Dem vote will be "suppressed" by 20% in NJ; but that Republicans would turn out in the same numbers...which is what it would take for Romney to win NJ.
And NY? McCain barely got 36% of the votes in '08. 2 million, 752,000 votes...
Even if Romney got that many votes -- or even 3 million votes in NY, you'd have to have over 1.8 million NY Dem voters (who voted last time) not vote...
And to think that 3 out of 8 NY Dem voters who voted last time would not vote -- while Romney voters went to the polls in the same/slightly increased proportion as GoP votes in '08, isn't realistic.
Besides all of the above, only a limited % of precinct voting areas have been effected...
