Yes, the word “diverse” has been so overused that the concept for the word has undergone a logical short-circuiting and lost its actual meaning. What would a “diverse” judge look like? Someone analogous to a giraffe - with a head seeming to come from one specie, a tail from another, etc.?
Havn’t you noticed that for 30 years, you will not find an article, annual report, grant application, or brochure from any non-profit organization or governmental agency that doesn’t sprinkle the word “diverse” through the text, even in sentences where it is just silly. I’ve seen something like,”Our zoo is proud that it is home to diverse animals from diverse countries for our diverse audience of diverse ages.” Are these zoos in any way more diverse than they were when the concept was so obvious that one just took it for granted. Today, we must genuflect at whatever is described as “diverse.” What about “Since the start of the guest green card program, the U.S. is host to diverse people of diverse countries with diseases more diverse than the country has seen in 200 years.”
