This got me thinking. Do you suppose that by act of congress, the VA could issue Federal Firearms Carry Licenses, just for disabled vets, that would give them special federal carry permission to carry everywhere in the US, no matter what state or local laws said?
This means they could travel into and through New York with guns, carry guns in Chicago, etc., and the state and local authorities could not take their gun, detain, arrest or question them over it.
Now granted, I am somewhat apprehensive about the federal government licensing anyone’s gun possession. But in this case, solely to overcome obstinate and oppressive state and local abuse of disabled veterans, it might work.
The rest of us will have to win back our rights the hard way, but that will take the feds out of the process entirely, so it is better in the long run.
The bottom line is that this would be recognition that “We trusted you with guns in the military, so we assume you are still trustworthy of guns as a civilian, a special recognition due to your training and experience.”
