Yes, but the RINO’s will act as if something terrible happened or say Mourdock is a moron while they are silent on RINO’s who make the GOP look bad.
Right. We need to be talking rape and abortion 2 weeks out before the most important election of our time - when all that matters is the economy.
Mourdock is an idiot. He (and Akin) have damaged the pro-life movement.
Please spare us the comments such as: “he had the courage to speak the truth.”
The truth is that he did damage to the cause.
...And for the untold generations descending from that child.
If any of us were able to trace our geneology --- way back before written records --- if wouldn't take long until you would find a pregnancy resulting from rape happening to your grandmothern
In today’s world, men aren’t supposed to voice opinions on “women’s issues” (i. e. the right to go unpunished for murdering your children) and whites aren’t supposed to have the authority to speak about racial issues. It’s also the case, according to liberals, that conservative white men are not to be listened to when they speak about anything.
ANY TIME life happens, God IS responsible. I don’t see why anyone can have a problem with this unless they are atheists.
God IS the author of ALL life.
You think the only people who should be talking about rape and abortion 2 weeks out before the most important election of our time.... are the media folks?
Like it or not, the comments about rape and abortion are out there and being discussed by the media. We either explain our reasons or abandon the candidate to an unaccountable media that wants us to believe that people are dangerous if they believe that God is the author of life and that he sometimes brings good out of bad situations.
How many of our neighbors are the media trying to tell us deserved to be killed?
How many of our neighbors are the media trying to tell us are dangerous because they believe God will take care of them and believe that life is a gift regardless of the circumstances surrounding the sperm and egg from which that life was created?
How many of our neighbors will face some kind of difficulty in their life - only to be told by the media that they are alone and that no good can come out of bad, and there is no higher Power directing things for good?
This is a flat-out assault by the media on almost everybody in my life, when you add up all the potential victims of their arguments. You want me to just walk away from that?
Mourdock was asked the question by the debate moderator. If that is his belief, should he have lied about it? I agree he probably could have stated it better.
Eddie (because I am relieved you are not my cousin)
I am happy that two politicians have had the courage to stand up for the right to life. Back when abortion became legal for the first time, my husband and I had a thoughtful discussion about what circumstances would ever cause us to decide to abort a new life.
We agreed that, even if I were raped, that of I conceived, we would have the child, and depending on our circumstances, we would either raise the child, or make sure we found wonderful adoptive parents.
Many of us who see a developing fetus as having a right to life disagree with your point of view. Murdering a defenseless human being is worse than rape.
And, neither of us were affiliated with any particular religion, just our sense of what is meant by “Thou shalt not murder”
So, you’re supposed to respond to a violent act by committing another violent act?
Please clarify. Are you implying that money is more important than life?
How much exactly is worth one life?
Please answer honestly. I am sick and tired of people saying crap like this. Put a dollar value on the life of a child.
Good luck with that... I live in realville. I want to win the damn election and get rid of Obamacare.
His statement came off as nutty (God intended for the rape victim to have a a baby? Really?).
This guy shot himself in the foot. And will probably cost us the Senate... And now Obamacare forever. All he had to say is I believe that life begins at.... and they are God’s children too. PERIOD. Not God intended...
Nice straw man argument. (Using Obama’s favorite mode of attack.)
I did NOT condone aborting a child conceived in rape. Very weak tactic to imply that I support abortion. I DID state that Mourdock and Akin damaged the pro life cause due to their stupidity. Plenty of pro-life politicians have found an intelligent way to respond to that question. In fact, many freepers have suggested fabulous answers.
But I will not condone politicians’ statements which damage the cause.
Please try harder next time.
Who said money is more important than life?
I said this election is about the economy. Not about rape and abortion.
Please, don’t put words in my mouth. Thank you.
You said that the election/economy was the most important thing. That implies that it is more important than the life of a child in the context of this thread.
You put the words in your own mouth just fine.
When people get their priorities in order, we as a country have hope. When supposed conservatives are willing to ignore the very real truth of what this pol and Akin said before him, there is little to none.
Hear! Hear!
I'm sick to death of this baby killing media setting-up pro-life male candidates to make them look like uncaring monsters.
I think he’s saying that elections are noting to be won trying to convince people that we are right about abortion and the other side is wrong.
But this kind of thing turns people off to the cause, and puts votes in the other side. We may be right, but being right doesn’t always win elections. And you have to win elections to get anything done.
And Mourdock promptly fell into the trap. This is what is known as a "wedge issue". No matter how you answer the question you are going to offend half of the electorate. When you only have a minute or two to respond to a wedge issue you should acknowledge that there are strong feelings on either side and then proceed to quote the current law.
