It is unbelievable that Mitt Romney did not answer a direct question teed up for him by the moderator Bob Schieffer - regarding the question of whether Obama mislead the American people over the unmitigated debacle and possible treason that was Benghazi. He gave Romney an open end question, inviting him to address the Libya debacle.
Romney chose to ignore the question and instead recite a monologue that sounded like a canned political speech.
Romney then allowed Obama to interrupt him and take over the question that was actually posed to himself - not Obama.
It became evident six minutes into the debate that Mitt Romney either did no debate prep or he is deliberately going into the notorious "prevent defense" - weeks before the election.
It was absolutely inconceivable that the Romney campaign could find a way to actually allow this saboteur to put ROMNEY on the defensive minutes into the debate - yet he DID. Dear God it is unbelievable. I am stunned.
Romney is looking weak, like Mr. Rogers when he needs to look like Ronald Reagan.
Someone over-coached him to not look like a mean old warmonger.
He is acting like he has to apologize for the idea that America needs to be strong
Disappointing.
Romney appears very Presidential tonight. Frankly Obama is interrupting, scowling and being a pretentious jerk. Just my $00.02.
I hope I’m wrong. But Obama is winning by a good margin. Romney missed beach balls on the Middle East Policy.
Alcaeda attacked us and killed four people.
Egypt is under terrorist leadership
Syria is Iran’s ally
Obama bowed to foreign leaders
16 Trillion in debt
no budget passed by the president
I hope I’m wrong. But Romney came out as nice guy tonight.
Perhaps but it is difficult to imagine Obama having much more of a strategy than changing the subject when the question comes.
Sorry you have been disappointed—I think Romney did just fine and accomplished what he needed to accomplish.
I tuned out the debate halfway thrugot too bored. Thought Romney came off weak and pandering. Guess we’re back to Squishy Mitt again, which is exactly why I never wanted him as nominee in the 1st place.
This whole debate could’ve been won by simply pointing out that Obama basically sat idly by watching our ambassador Stevens plus others die, and did absolutely nothing.

IBAZO! (In before America zots Obama)
Email to family:
Look for the polls to settle over the next week Romney’s national number should go up a couple points as the last of the undecideds settle (this debate proved they can safely do so)
and Look for this to finally be reflected in Ohio - where Suffolk, who correctly pulled early out of FL, NC and VA Suffolk reports Romney’s first real tie there.
Personally - I have Romney winning at WI, IA and even PA in addition.
But this thing is more and more over every time Obama and Romney show their faces.
Probably 300 or more EV’s - I have Romney at 321, Popular vote 52% - 47% (how appropriate), or even a wider 54-45 split.
Be sure to build reinforced fences around your house there will be a landslide in 2 weeks.
Bear in mind, this is a battle for hearts and minds of those yet undecided. No one from “our” side is going to vote for Obama because of what Romney says, nor are any strong Obama supporters likely to flip.
So what do they want to hear from Romney in order to support him, that is the question that is foremost in Romneys strategy for this debate.
There is also the “if your enemy is screwing up, don’t stop him” that argues for Romney to keep a low profile.
And finally, Romney knew that he wanted to turn to the “strong economy = national security” argument, which I think he did very effectively. Obama lying about Libya just isn’t an issue upon which the election will turn.
The Libya question was a trap. Romney avoided it frustrating the hell out of Obama. Obama fired multiple personal attacks. Looked desperate and more petty to me as the debate went on.
I suspect the question was a set up, and Romney knew it was a set up. Obama was probably primed to nail him hard with some practiced counterattack, but by not attacking, it takes the wind out of the blowhard.
Common sense, if you are boxing someone you know has a devastating right thrust counter-punch, you keep pivoting to their left, hitting them with jabs, and not walking into their optimal range. If they still try to nail you with it, outside of its range, it will mean a lot of wasted energy in an ineffective attack.
Anybody looking to Romney to solve anything sure is going to be disappointed.
No solutions come from DC.
Only problems, more taxes, and less freedom come from DC.
The problem with Libya is Obama and his Obots are providing multiple narratives. All he really needed to do is get out of the way.
Playing prevent defense and taking the rope-a-dope strategy is called being smart when your internals show you leading. You don’t take a chance, you don’t let any major blows land, and you walk out of the ring a winner.
After watching the whole debate, I guess I understand Romney’s strategy. I still think he could taken a couple more easy shots. He got some jabs in and was certainly working to avoid being dragged into petty squabling.
I guess I wanted a repeat of the first debate.
I thought Romney was more Presidential but didn’t differentiate himself much beyond US strength Vs weakness abroad.
Romney avoided traps. He did what he had to do. Obama was clearly frustrated at the end of it. Those “beach balls” were the pre-planned lines of attack by the president. Romney needed to come of as calm and level headed while forceful. He succeeded at that.
“I suspect the question was a set up, and Romney knew it was a set up”
I was thinking the same thing. Every voter with more than a single digit IQ is pretty much aware of Obama’s feckless handling the Libya crisis. Schiffer was probably waiting with another out-of-context word game provided by David Axeldork (i.e. Candy Crowley’s “terrorism” quote) as soon as Romney made any specific reference to to this issue.
re: “You’re stunned that MYTH Romney is a mealy mouthed no balls wuss that doesn’t know how to make a case why anyone should vote for him over the Kenyan since they basically are the same except for skin color and crazy religion?”
Lets say for the sake of argument that you are right, that Romney and Obama are the same, then why are the mainstream media so out to get Romney?? Why do they hate him so much if he and Obama are basically the same?
You really think Chris Matthews believes Romney and Obama are the same?? You are known, not only by your friends, but also by your enemies. The same people that hate Romney also hate you.
