Follow me on this, please. I've actually thought there were two winners at the debate: Mitt Romney, and Hillary Clinton. Mitt, for the obvious reasons, and Hillary, because I've believed ever since 2008 that she was going to run again in 2016. If Obama wins, IMHO, what he will do to the country the next four years will make it impossible for any Democrat to win the WH. So, an Obama loss is a very good thing for the Clintons.
While I am working very hard to beat Obama next month, one can't ignore the fact that in this 24/7/365 media environment the 2016 election begins the day after election.
I'd wager that at least one major paper, likely the NY times will have a headline along these lines:
ROMNEY WINS SURPRISING, CONVINCING VICTORY; GOP TAKES CONTROL OF SENATE
SPECUALTION BEGINS ON CLINTON RUNNING IN 2016
BTW..we should get very excited about 2014. Take a look at rthe loist of senators up then. 20 Dems..many of whom are very vulnerable, and several will retire. I think the GOP ends up with 53 Senate seats this time, and we could hit 60+ in 2014..
