I'm sure there are some people who are dependent that don't have a medical reason to justify it. But that's not the biggest problem today. The problem today is 25% UNEMPLOYMENT. And it didn't happen because people said I just don't feel like working. It happened because we lowered our import tariffs and exported our jobs overseas. We made the banking system unstable. We took almost no action since the 1970's to insulate ourselves from another oil spike. And when oil prices did go up, in a weakened economy, it didn't take long for unemployment to go up. That resulted in a mortgage and banking crisis, which knocked the floor out from under consumer psychology, and we still haven't recovered. And we may not if we don't get smart about trade.
Excellent point.
