“If you truly believe that helping the SOCIALIST Obama stay in office is a bad thing, then why would you support a party that would replace him with another SOCIALIST (Romney)?”
I don’t particularly support the party and I don’t particularly support Romney: I’m simply going to vote for him because voting for Romney is the ONLY thing I can personally do to help prevent Obama from staying in office four more years, and having carefully studied what Obama’s been doing for the past four years, as bad as Romney MAY be, I know for certain that Obama is truly 1000 times worse. So for me, it’s not really even a lesser of two slightly different evils, it’s the difference between a little evil and one that is 1000 times MORE evil.
The bottom line is that money talks and bullshit walks. The Republican Party elite represents really big money, and you and I are peasants. You and I will ALWAYS be peasants! You and I will NEVER have any real influence on anything that matters big-picture-wise. I accept that. I don’t think you do. As a consequence of that acceptance I choose not to waste my time and energy tilting at windmills, particularly ones so large that I can’t even see how big they are. Instead, I choose to take POSITIVE actions to make things better, even if those POSITIVE actions are incredibly tiny. At least they are positive actions and not futile actions.
Not voting because my ideal candidate didn’t win (they didn’t), or voting for some third-party peasant like myself as a protest is not a positive action. It’s an action of frustration and futility. It’s tilting at windmills.
That is the crux of our disagreement.
4 years of an opposed Obama or 8 years of an unopposed Romney. Seems about the same to me.
